Your First Lyreline Procedure

This walkthrough demonstrates one complete Lyreline workflow using fictional, non-confidential content. It remains useful after the tester program.

For this example, document how to create and save a small TextEdit checklist.

1. Prepare the example

Open TextEdit, create a blank document, and type three harmless checklist items. Keep that window open and visible.

2. Create a Capture Session

  1. In Lyreline, choose New Capture Session.
  2. Name it Create a TextEdit Checklist.
  3. Choose Choose Application or Window and select the exact TextEdit window with Apple's system picker.
  4. Grant Screen Recording permission if macOS requests it. Lyreline captures only when you request a screenshot and does not record continuously.
  5. Choose Start Session.

A Capture Session holds working capture material. It is not yet the finished Procedure.

3. Capture meaningful moments

  1. Choose Screenshot.
  2. Title the first moment Enter the checklist items.
  3. Add a note explaining what the learner should type, then save the moment.
  4. Change the TextEdit document—for example, check or format an item.
  5. Capture another Screenshot titled Review the completed checklist.
  6. Add a Result or Note moment describing the expected outcome.

Capture only transitions that help another person understand the work. More screenshots do not automatically make a better procedure.

4. Pause and continue

  1. Choose Save and Continue Later.
  2. Confirm the Capture Session shows Paused and remains a Draft.
  3. Navigate elsewhere in Lyreline, return to Capture Sessions, and reopen it.
  4. Choose Continue Capture Session.
  5. Select the current TextEdit window again.
  6. Enter a title for the next moment and choose Capture Named Moment.

Lyreline asks for the current source again so it does not reuse stale window identifiers.

5. Organize the material

  1. Edit titles or notes that would not make sense to another reader.
  2. Reorder moments into the intended sequence.
  3. Keep Include in Procedure enabled only for useful material.
  4. Use Add Written Step for an instruction that does not need an image.

6. Create the Procedure

  1. Choose Create Procedure….
  2. Enter a clear title and create the document.
  3. Review the generated sections and step numbers.
  4. Edit each instruction and expected result so it can stand on its own.

The Capture Session remains the working capture project. The linked Procedure is the structured document readers will use.

7. Edit a screenshot

  1. Open a screenshot in Capture Presentation.
  2. Crop unused outer space.
  3. Add a restrained Highlight or Numbered Callout where it improves clarity.
  4. Redact only fictional text for this exercise.
  5. Undo and redo one change.
  6. Switch to Document Preview and confirm editor outlines disappear.
  7. Save the presentation.

The original capture remains immutable. Presentation edits affect the curated document image, not the original asset.

8. Complete Publication Review

From the Capture Session, choose Review for Publication. Review each queued image and choose Approve for Export when ready. Needs Changes keeps the presentation unresolved so it can be corrected.

Approval prepares presentations for output; it does not by itself publish the Capture Session or Procedure.

9. Preview and export the PDF

  1. Open the Procedure's Document Preview.
  2. Check titles, instructions, expected results, numbering, and images.
  3. Choose Export PDF….
  4. Select Standard or High image quality and a destination.
  5. Open the finished PDF and compare it with Document Preview.

10. Create a restorable archive

PDF and PNG files are publication outputs, not editable backups. Use Lyreline's Archive commands to export the test Capture Session or linked work as a .lyrelinearchive at a user-selected destination.

Keep the archive if you want to restore the editable Capture Session, original images, presentation edits, linked Procedure, and relevant history later.
